Most Commonly Asked Questions
What kind of massage treatment do you do?
Expect to have the soft tissue complaints that you have been experiencing addressed, while at the same time deeply relaxing techniques will be used to activate your parasympathetic nervous system. Some areas might be sore the next day and we recommend engaging in movement as this can be very beneficial to healing. Typically clients leave feeling tired but recharged.
I have an infection. Is massage recommended?
No. It is recommended that you don't get massage or lymphatic drainage when you have an active infection. Your body at this time benefits most from rest.
If you believe that you are in the early stages of an illness it is also best to call or email to reschedule your appointment to a time when you are starting to feel better.
Lymphatic drainage can help greatly when you are not in an active state of sickness.
What should I expect from my first session?
Your appointment includes a dedicated and thorough interview. This is essential for your therapist to fully grasp your goals and make the most of your session. Once you both agree on the scope of treatment, the therapist will step out of the room to wash their hands. At this time you can undress to your comfort level and lie down on the table.
To create a cozy atmosphere, our clinic provides heating pads and table warmers.
Treatment techniques will be tailored to your needs, and your feedback on pressure is welcomed to ensure the best experience possible.
Do you treat lymphedema?
No. At this time we do not have any therapists trained in the treatment of lymphedema. We do have a great referral network though and if you would like help with finding a therapist please call or email and we would be happy to help guide you in the right direction.
Is breast massage common?
The foundational training standards for the 2200-hour massage program at Mount Royal University include breast massage. Since this is a treatment focus for our clinic, therapists providing this service have undergone additional training to guarantee high quality care for this sensitive area.
Am I expected to tip?
We strongly believe that massage should be an integral part of your professional health management team and as such our clinic does not encourage tipping.
While we truly appreciate the kind gesture, we have chosen to donate the money left in tips to the Know Your Lemons Foundation for their amazing education campaign about the early signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
If you would like to contribute your support this is appreciated, but it is not expected.
Do you Direct Bill?
We do not provide direct billing but all of our treatments can be submitted to your personal health insurance provider for reimbursement with a receipt of payment.
What kind of breast surgeries do you work with?
Breast surgeries are conducted for a multitude of reasons, and we are well-prepared to address the concerns that are common for most.
Massage therapy can significantly aid in the recovery process after breast cancer surgeries such as lumpectomy and mastectomy, and it can also provide relief from complications caused by radiation therapy.
Elective surgeries for resizing and reconstruction, including implants, lifts and reductions, can gain aesthetic advantages from the management of swelling and scar tissue.
Our clinic is an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and warmly welcome all gender-affirming surgeries.
What forms of Payment do you accept?
